RULER. FATHER. HUMAN BEING.
What will we leave behind?
Svätopluk opens onto a vast historical stage, yet a personal drama lies at its heart. A ruler, his sons and their country’s future raise questions of responsibility, unity and power.
The second opera was composed by Eugen Suchoň between 1952 and 1959. It received its world premiere on 10 March 1960 in the historic building of the Slovak National Theatre.
The work can be approached both as a historical panorama and as a family story. The meeting of great events with personal decisions offers an inviting way into this opera.
